Book Sale on April 21, 2007
Friends of the Almaden Library
San Jose, California

Now that the Friends members had the first book sale in the new building for "practice," it was much easier to set up for the book sale this time.  The volunteer members of the Friends and teenagers donating their time for Community Service set up the tables and then brought in the boxes of books, and more and more boxes of books, setting them on top of the tables marked for each book category.  Everything went so smoothly that the whole room was ready for Saturday morning opening by 4:30 PM.  We couldn't have done it without the teen helpers with their strong backs and willingness to do whatever was needed.

Buyers started arriving by around 8:30 on Saturday morning and waited patiently for the sale to open at 9:00.  Everything went smoothly all morning.  At many previous sales, there was a marked slowdown at around lunchtime, but this time the crowd remained steady during the entire day.  A few photos will be added soon, after editing, so come back and take a look in a few days.  At the end of the sale day, on Saturday afternoon, the teenagers were again a tremendous help in packing up the remaining books and moving the packing boxes back to storage.

The net proceeds added up to $2,729.50, but we were fortunate enough to have had an offer for 50% matching of the sale proceeds.  It was agreed that we could include the proceeds of the Lobby Sale that week, and so the net sale amount was set at $3,000.00 and was matched with an additional $1,500.00 by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans following the sale.  Thus, the total sale funds amounted to $4,500.00.

It has been another very successful book sale, and we're excited that we'll have a large amount of money to make available to the library for many special programs and additions to the collection.  Thanks again to all of the wonderful donors and customers who make these book sales and the Lobby Sale possible.
