The Friends of the Almaden Library supports the Almaden Branch Library by raising funds for special programs and materials as needed by the librarians and also spreading the word to the area residents about how and why the library needs extra funding above that available from the city budget.
The new Almaden Library and Community Center opened on May 13, 2006, the first building in San Jose where both functions are in the same building. The Friends requests donations of gently used books and audio/video materials and sells them to raise money for the library. Since the new library opened, the Friends have held two used book sales each year on the third Saturday in April and the first Saturday in November. There is also a display of books and media items in the Lobby Sale Area, near the Oasis Cafe, for sale at all times that the building is open. Sales here are on the honor system at the same low rates as during the large book sales Customers shop here so frequently that annual profits from this Lobby Sale Area are now exceeding those at the two large book sales.

Everyone interested in supporting the Almaden Branch Library is welcome to join our Friends group. Membership privileges: subscription to our newsletter which is sent out several times each year, sorting book and audiovisual donations to get them ready for the lobby book sale area and our book sales, helping at our book sales, fellowship, and fun. Pick up a blue membership application in the lobby book sale area or in the library. Fill out the form and give it to a librarian or a library staff member. You can also find the membership application online at the Become a Friend page. There are no dues required for membership; however, we welcome donations with a check made out to Friends of the Almaden Library.
